Overview

Thomas “TJ” Bugbee came to Nexsen Pruet to join Sandy Sands and the firm’s Public Policy & Governmental Affairs group in Raleigh.  A native of Wilmington, TJ earned his degree in political science from North Carolina State University and has been working in the legislative and political world since early 2010.

TJ began his career at the North Carolina General Assembly where he had the opportunity to work in the offices of three legislators, including the Speaker of the House, Thom Tillis.  At the beginning of 2012, TJ served as Field Director to a North Carolina congressional campaign, through both the primary and general election cycles.

As a Government Relations Advisor and Registered Lobbyist, TJ’s role at Nexsen Pruet ties together his legislative policy background and his political grassroots background.  He represents the interests of businesses and individuals before the state’s legislative and executive branches to achieve full-circle policy solutions.

Related Insights

Besides spending quality time with his wife Anne Elizabeth, TJ has a few other passions. First and foremost is playing golf.  TJ has enveloped himself in the game since he was seven and it has very much become a part of him.  In high school and college he worked at golf courses as a staffer and as a caddy and also played in tournaments around the state.  He takes every opportunity to slide out onto the course he gets and is often caught “air swinging” to his reflection.

TJ also enjoys spending time with family back in Wilmington, as well as his wife’s family farm in Sampson County.  He loves to cook, go hiking, the beach, bluegrass music, the Episcopal Church and of course NC State football. GO WOLFPACK!
