Firm Welcomes Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Attorney Lisa Sumner

Nexsen Pruet welcomes attorney Lisa P. Sumner as a Member (partner) in the firm’s Bankruptcy & Financial Services group. Sumner is a commercial litigator focusing her practice in the areas of creditors' rights & bankruptcy for over 22 years. She has extensive experience guiding clients through restructuring and liquidation of commercial claims outside and inside Chapter 11, mitigating risk arising from transactions involving financially distressed companies and individuals, and defending creditors against lender liability claims and bankruptcy avoidance actions. Agricultural lending has long been a key focus of her practice.

Sumner is dedicated to the legal community through her involvement with the North Carolina Bar Association's Bankruptcy Section, the American Bar Association's Business Law Section, and as President of the Turnaround Management Association. She has been recognized as a Leading Attorney by Chambers USA since 2014 for Bankruptcy/Restructuring along with awards from the American Bar Association and Business North Carolina magazine.

Sumner received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law. She was a Johnston Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude.  She is licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
