23 Middle School Girls Recognized
December 9, 2016
On Friday, December 9th, a group of girls from Chapin Middle School were recognized for the completion of Nexsen Pruet's 13th Next Steps Class. The 23 seventh graders, who were chosen by their teachers and staff based on leadership qualities and potential, attended at a luncheon at the firm's Columbia office.
Over the course of the semester, the girls cover a variety of topics, including:
the definition of leadership;
leadership among peers;
networking and social interaction;
planning for the future;
the importance of a mentor;
responsibility to the community.
The final session provides an outlet for the girls to practice their social interaction skills by networking with a group of professional women from the Midlands.
Nexsen Pruet attorney Laurie Becker is one of the co-creators of the Next Steps program, which teaches leadership skills to middle school girls in the Midlands of South Carolina. As a result of the program, Nexsen Pruet was awarded the “Outstanding Middle School Business Partner” award for 2013-2014 by District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties.
